PERCEIVED COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES OF SHIELD REVIEW CENTER REVIEW PROGRAM
1. The program
includes a holistic package equipping students with pertinent knowledge
covering all domains of learning. Personal knowledge, critical thinking
assessment and monitoring of the students are continually done during the
course of the review.
STRATEGIES:
A.
Diagnostic examination – 2-days exam for 500-items questions covering 10 major
areas of nursing. This is given to the students prior to the actual review in
order to assess areas of strengths and weaknesses. Information gathered from
the said exam will be used as basis for any modification of the current review
program. Such action will ensure that the program will run smoothly and
effectively as this is being done to suit the students’ needs.
Mechanics:
1.
Content of the
exam is 50- items questions for every concept namely: Fundamentals of nursing,
Professional Adjustment, Leadership Management and Research (PALMR), Community
Nursing, IMCI/COPAR, Communicable disease, Obstetric, Pediatric, Medical
Surgical 1, Medical Surgical 2 and Psychiatric Nursing.
2.
Utilization of
specialized answer sheet checked by optical scanner (scantron machine) for the
5 sets of exam patterned as Nursing Practice 1- 5 respectively, thus giving
them a sense of what an actual board exam is.
3.
Results will be provided
2 days after rationalization with graph and analysis of performance per individual
and the performance graph as a whole class.
4.
Results will be presented
to the administration and this will serve as the basis for the design of the
Intensive Review program. Syllabus and schedule for the review will be decided
through collaboration of the school and review center. The effectiveness of
such will then be evaluated on another major exam, which is the Validation
Exam.
5.
Consultations with
the students will be done using the individualized diagnostic graphs as a basis
for analysis of their standing. Result will be explained to them and at the
same time, suggestions for the review and counseling will also be performed.
B.
Validation Exam - same with the features of diagnostic exam but with greater difficulty. Questions
given would be taken from the topics encountered during the intensive review.
Mechanics:
1.
Same as the
mechanics 1-4 of Diagnostic exam.
2.
Results will be presented
to the administration as basis for the critical and crash review. Syllabus and
schedule for the review will be both the collaboration of the school and review
center.
3.
Counseling will
be done with the students who attained below the passing rate grade or
performance.
C.
Pre board examination - This is patterned
to the actual board examination.
Questions to be given will come from topics that are predicted to be
asked in the actual board exam as researched by Shield Review Center special
team of researchers.
Mechanics:
1.
Administered
after crash/ final coaching review, which will fall after the final examination
for the second semester and last week of July for the regular review.
2.
Consultations/
counseling/ tutorials will be given to students accordingly.
D.
Strict
monitoring of the students’ attendance and performance.
Mechanics:
a.
All students will be subjected to optional TUTORIALS.
Two hours (2) tutorial sessions on
board sensitive topics adjusted on the needs of the school.
b.
Schedule
of tutorials will be adjusted according to the needs of the students based on
their performance not only in the major examinations but also in the post-tests
in each subject that will be discussed.
c.
Students
who will perform low in these examinations as well as those who have committed
absences or have missed topics will be REQUIRED to attend the scheduled tutorials.
d.
Students with low scores on
a subject will be addressed and clarified immediately via FOCUS GROUP
DISCUSSIONS (FGD)
e.
Daily
attendance is monitored strictly. Absent students are tracked via SMS or call.
Unnecessary and excessive absences warrant the center to call the attention of
student’s guardian.
f.
Late
comers will be asked to stay after the review hours in order to catch up and
make up for whatever topics missed due to being late.
2.

7. Shield values true partnership and
collaboration
The goal of molding
students to become the best test taker they can be can best be achieved through
team work. One approach is to facilitate Faculty Development activities such as
seminar to ensure that knowledge and skills will be further enhanced to their
advantage as well as to their students.
Such faculty
development activity will be planned and scheduled according to the needs of
the school and the capabilities of the review center.
8. Competent staff and conducive environment
Another vital force
needed to make learning effective is to make the environment as comfortable as
possible. Shield always make it a point that the review hall is always
conducive for learning by following and applying principles as described by
Nightingale in her Environmental theory (i.e. adequate lighting and ventilation).
More than that, it
has always been the goal of Shield to provide a warm and caring environment for
the students where they can express and develop their potentials in the best
possible way they can. An attitude of being strict but reasonable, warm but objective
is what Shield tries to apply to all of the students.

CLOSED DOOR FINAL BRIEFING
Aside from the practice tests, the students are
also given Pre-board Simulation
Examination. The tests are given at
the middle of the program and towards the end of the program. The Pre-board exam serves as mock board
exam for the students. The rationale for the choices and correct answers
for the Pre-Board Exam follows. A final
coaching, where pertinent information about the NLE, final instructions on test
taking and evaluation of their performance during the course of the program are given to the students at the last session
